Jørn Erik Ahlsen

Electric Guitar / Norway

It's a big mess...

And this is how is started:

I started off as a rock guitar player, dreaming of playing in KISS, which sadly didn't happen. YET. Then I fell in to jazz. I fell in to the cup of theory, and later I tried to shake that off with playing totally improvised music. In the beginning I tried to never repeat myself. Like, NEVER. But in the end, after some years i just had to. Suddenly, one summer, I was teaching in Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. I got a lot of new mindblowing musical experience. So I moved there for 3 months, then for 18 months.

When I came back I felt like a musical nomad. Walking from one thing to another. Genre was not a question. Music was the only debated. I find myself floatiing between improv, rock, Norwegian folk, Zanzibar Taarab music, blues, Oriental music and jazz. I have the pleasure of working with and playing with musicians like Guro Skumsnes Moe, Håvard Skaset, Stian Larsen, Aladin Abbas, André Kassen, Tellef Kvifte, Jodi Gilbert, Michael Moore, Sidiki Camara, Monaica Ifejilika, John Hughes, Excel Michael, Charlie Rishmawie, Matona, Rajab Suleiman, Mohammed Otman, Mahsin Basalama, Han Bennink, Michael Duch, Øyvind Nypan, Rolf Kristensen, Nils Olav Johansen, Thomas T. Dahl, Anette Askvik, Jan Bang, Erik Honoré, Per Øystein Sørensen, Thomas Oxem,Anita Kaasbøll, Lius Baruch, Alejandro Gisbert, Sarah Camille, Diom De Kossa, Olav Torget, Kenneth Ekornes, Khalid Saleh, Hanne Rekdal, Jessica Sligter, Njål Ølnes, Greggory Büttner, Astrid Groseth, Ingrid Solvik, Sigurd Ytre-Arne and more. Google them all, they are fantastic!

When I'm not playing guitar I'm fly fishing...
